| Bio: | Greetings. I am Jet Wolf. I am pissed.
This is the home of my politically-slanted musings and rantings. If you're looking for my personal journal filled with everything not-this, then you'll want to point your browsers to jetwolf.
That out of the way, a little bit of information about me before you go reading. Done in bulletpoint form for our bulletpoint world.
Your Guide to Wolf Politik
- When I get around to feeling, I tend to do it strongly. This sometimes results in frothing at the mouth that may not be as coherant as I might like. In the event of rant explosion, give me a little bit to calm down and I'll come back and bring reason with me. Hopefully.
- Despite what could be inferred from this journal's very existence, I am not a political junkie. I don't know every detail about every thing. I have never taken a political science class nor do I plan to. The ins and outs of every day workings bore the hell out of me.
- In relation to the above, I'm not always right. It's quite possible I often won't be. Sometimes I might go off on something and either: a) don't have enough facts, or b) have the wrong facts. If that's the case, then by all means, say. Many of you are quite probably a lot smarter than I am.
- I do not like Bush. I do not like Bush at all. Rarely have I witnessed a person who brings out such vitriol in me. From the pretend Texan accent to the not-at-all-pretend condescending smirk. From the complete incompetance to the inability to exhibit one shred of decency. If you are a staunch supporter of Bush, then we are destined to butt heads, and often. Which I'm okay with since, unlike Bush, I believe that disagreement and discourse is good and healthy.
- In a similar vein, by and large I do not like any politicians. I don't trust them. Elections are, in most instances, little more than attempting to pick the lesser of two great evils. For the most part my feelings are more liberal than not, but I don't fully identify myself as "Democrat" and think the whole darned thing is corrupt.
- I am not religious. I am not, however, anti-religion ... sort of. I am very much against the organized religious bodies who commit atrocities in the name of their deity or deities and who seek to impose their personal beliefs on anyone and everyone. I believe that religion can be a source of great strength and comfort to an individual and that it can help guide them toward a better life. That part's great. I couldn't care less if you worship Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Don't hurt me, don't hurt anyone else, and more power to you.
- As previously mentioned, I don't trust the government. I am deeply cynical. I'm also finding myself becoming a wee bit paranoid. (With NSA wiretaps, e-mail monitoring and mass profiling, I can't imagine why that would be.) This gives me a bent toward conspiracy theories and other "tin foil hat" thinking. If you find something a little bit out there, I ask only that you stop and consider the possibility that it could be true. What if?
- I am not patriotic. I believe that patriotism is a world sickness, and that until people are cured of it, we as a species are screwed. I do not believe that America is the be-all and end-all. I do not believe that America is any more special than any other nation. I feel no particular loyalties to America, and would rather consider myself a world citizen. America-neutral, if you will. Despite that, I still feel perfectly comfortable in expressing my feelings, opinions and critique about America. After all, the right to not be rabidly pro-American is one my inalienable rights as an American.
At the end of it all, what I hope to achieve is to make you think. Maybe get a little bit angry too. I encourage being challenged on my ideas. Sometimes all I'll have is my gut (where all the nerve endings are) and sometimes I might have a little bit more. But if you're left thinking when we're done, then I consider it a job well done.
To get you to think. That's my mission statement.
